Day-to-Day Data Exhibitions Preview

The Guardian (The Guide, page 37)
By Robert Clark
Artists were once obliged to be congenitally wild at heart, following intuitive impulses and leaving the systematic analysis and diagnosis of world goings-on to academics and office workers. But Day-to-Day Data is an exhibition of utterly methodical work by contemporary artists who plot maps, make lists and collect data. Nevertheless, being artists, their systems of analysis tend to be somewhat wayward to say the least. Hannah Brown will hand out her Daily Efficiency and Behaviour Analysis Self-Evaluation Checklists to challenge visitors to live up to her perfect day, while Christian Nold asks them to build up individual ‘bio-maps’ using global positioning and lie-detector technology. Helen Frosi’s Life/Lotto investigates whether winning numbers can be read from coffee-dreg ciphers.
